CIHM: Canadian Institute for Historic Microreproduction
ECO: Early Canadiana Online

Canadian Institute for Historical Microreproductions (CIHM) was launched
in 1978 as a nonprofit organization for preserving and providing access
to early Canadian publications, first on microfiche and now online.

ECO began in 1997 as a pilot project to create an online
digital  library  by  taking  microfilmed  documents  from  the
CIHM microfiche collection and scanning them into digital images.

In 2008, the Canadian Institute for Historical Microreproductions (CIHM)
and AlouetteCanada, merged into a single organization called Canadiana.org
The press release announcing the merger, April 2008

Imagine a country where every citizen has the opportunity
to access its online cumulative cultural heritage...
